Special Issues of Sustainable Mediterranean
The importance of issues concerning Environmental Education (EE) or Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is highlighted in two special issues of MIO-ECSDE's quarterly newsletter, namely:
Issue No 30, August 2003: Environmental Education in the Mediterranean
In this issue it is attempted to trace the level of implementation of EE and ESD programmes, mainly in terms of NGO activities. Reports from EE meetings and conferences are included, as well as presentation or educational materials, recently produced.

Issue No 34, August 2004: The status of Environmental Education in the Med Countries within the formal and non-formal education system
It is common knowledge that within the Mediterranean there is a big diversity not only in the degree of application of EE or ESD and the way that it is practiced, but also in the general philosophy and the regulatory and operational framework of the educational systems in the various countries. Based on this assumption, it was considered that this special issue of Sustainable Mediterranean on the status of EE in the Mediterranean countries within the formal and non-formal education system would be a useful insight for educators as well as analysts.
Reports concerning the place of EE in the national educational systems of Cyprus , Greece , Italy , Morocco , Portugal , Tunisia and Turkey are included, together with several international programmes applied in the Mediterranean countries.

Issue No39, November 2005:
The Mediterranean and ESD: A first response to the UN Decade of ESD (2005-2014).
This special edition of “Sustainable Mediterranean” presents
the main and characteristic inputs made during the
"Conference for the Official Launching of the
UN Decade of ESD in the Mediterranean Region"
26-27 November 2005, Athens Greece.
The Conference was organised by the Hellenic Ministry of National Education & Religious Affairs
with the support of the Italian Ministry for Environment & Territory, UNEP/MAP and MIO-ECSDE
and under the auspices of the Greek Parliament, UNESCO and UNECE.
Its main inputs included in this Issue concern initiatives
at national and international, formal and non-formal level.
The Background Document and the agreed Resolution are also included.
