There is no doubt that all around the Mediterranean, and beyond, there are many people actively, passionately and imaginatively working in education to facilitate change towards sustainability, may that be in schools, youth groups, local communities, NGOs etc. The documents presented here, are proposed as examples of good practice in ESD in order to inspire and support the work of others. Some come from MEdIES Secretariat, and others from MEdIES members. All MEdIES members are welcome to enrich this catalogue with their implemented practical intervention plans, games and ideas in the field of ESD. And of course all practitioners are welcome to reflect upon, evaluate and share ideas on the methods proposed .

The MEdIES secretariat of the Mediterranean Information Office (ΜΙO-ECSDE) designed and implemented a series of educational activities in schools of 6 Cyclades islands in May 2011, namely in Serifos, Sifnos, Milos, Syros, Folegandros and Sikinos.
The educational intervention was designed for middle primary, until middle high school (8-13 yrs) but this year it was applied for the first time at younger as well as older students. The purpose of the intervention was to inform and sensitize students to the issue of water saving, particularly through the revival of the practice of collecting rainwater in cisterns. All the designed activities were experiential and discovery-based for the learners.
At the end of the intervention the educational poster “I care for water” was given to all the students.
The learners evaluation was carried out through short anonymous questionnaires, in which the declared degree of satisfaction summed up to 89%.
A series of teacher trainings took place also in the islands, during which the trainees were informed on how to use in their classes the educational material “the Gift of Rain” that was handed out to them.
In total 588 students and 109 teachers participated in this yearsΆ activities.
The educationa interventions were carried out in cooperation with the Dpts of Environmental Education (EE) of Primary and Secondary Education of the Cyclades. This was the third year (since 2008) of implementation of a rather sucessful prioject, the “Rain Water Harvesting in the Cyclades” that is run by GWP-MED - within the the wider campaign entitled MISSION WATER of the Coca-Cola HBC Greece.
