DPPVN is a non-governmental and non-profit organization. DPPVN elaborates and carries out special programs of conservation and restoration of endangered animals (e.g. birds, amphibians, reptiles, dragonflies) and plant populations and their habitats, takes part in elaboration of wildlife conservation and proposes the establishment of protected areas. DPPVN arranges field expeditions for the study and evaluation of population states in endangered animals and plants, and proposes and elaborates conservation measures for the endangered animals and plants species as well as habitats. DPPVN organizes various forms of ecological education, arranges special conferences, workshops in the field of animal studies and conservation, and raises public awareness of wildlife. DPPVN publish also scientific journal for biology and ecology Biota.

The main goals of DPPVN are:

  • conservation of animals and plants and their habitats,
  • research and assessment of the status of animal populations and their habitats,
  • ecological and environmental education.

The Society is a member of international organization MIO-ECSDE (Mediterranean Information Office for Environment, Culture and Sustainable Development, Athens, Greece) and DEF (Danube Environmental Forum, Baja, Hungary). Members of DPPVN are representatives in various organizations, such as IUCN/SSC and Wetlands International\'s Specialist Groups.
