In the framework of the Water for the City Program (coordinated by GWP-Med) on 23 April 2018 the closing meeting of the MEdIES educational Activities in Alexandroupolis took place, in the 3rd High-School of Alexandroupolis, in cooperation with the ESD Officers of the Primary and Secondary Education Directory of Evros.

The meeting aimed to present the activities that have taken place in the past two years (2017-2018) in the schools of Alexandroupolis municipality (primary and early secondary schools); to discuss the extent to which the WfC Programme supported the teachers’ work in ESD; and to discuss possible follow up activities.

A few months after the full operation of the website of neroupoli (= water-city) the content, functionality, and traffic to the website was presented and discussed. Despite the admittedly low participation of teachers (12 individuals) during the meeting, there was a useful discussion and feedback from the practitioner teachers on ways how to use the website with their students.

Also some interesting ideas were discussed regarding the follow up of the educational component of “Water for the City” Programme. Specifically, a representative of the local Natural History Museum expressed the interest to “host” the WfC educational intervention (and hands-on) and integrate it in their own guided visits with the students. This progress proves that the local community has truly embraced and valued the educational component of the WfC project. The pledge and final decision will be taken in the summer of 2018, so that the WfC material will start to be used by the Museum’s educators from the next school year on.

The MEdIES Secretariat thankful to the ESD Officers of the Primary Educational Directory of Evros, Mr A. Palavouzopoulos and for Secondary, respectively, Ms Sofia Tsiropoulou for the smooth collaboration during the past two years. We are also very thankful to the local educator, Ms Matina Vezyrtzi that embraced the program and implemented it professionally, practically in all the schools of the municipality.

Snapshot from the meeting:
