MEdIES meetingsNordic Conference on Sustainable Development in the Baltic Sea Region,
"Solutions local, together" 31 Jan -2 Feb 2011 Turku Finland.

More than 550 people from 20 countries participated in the Nordic Conference on Sustainable Development in the Baltic Sea Region, entitled "Solutions local, together". The Conference - introduced sustainable practical solutions and inspired participants to use local solutions together with other stakeholders.

The Conference was organized in the city of Turku, Finland according to the principles of sustainable development. An essential part of the conference, were several side events.
The conference presentations and videos can be seen from the conference website http://www.solutions2011.fi/ . In line with the principles of sustainability most of the material was merely available in e-form on the conference website. The only printing material was the agenda. Throughout the conference several social networking tools were used, like Face book , Solutions 2011, and twitter, giving the possibility to anyone to follow it on real time.

The majority of the participants represented local authorities, teachers from all three levels (primary, secondary, tertiary), and few from NGOs and ministries.

MIO-ECSDE and MEdIES participated under the light of previous cooperation, also in the framework of the long-standing collaboration between the Baltic University Programme (BUP) and the Mediterranean Universities Network on Sustainable Development for SD focusing on ESD (MedUnNET).

MIO-ESCDE and MEdIES representative, Mr Vasilis Psallidas held meetings with several agencies for further development of common projects, including the Ministries of Education, Culture and Foreign Affairs, Union of Baltic Cities Commission on Environment Secretariat, Turku and other Finish and Sweden municipalities, Adult Education, NGO's and the Director of the Centre for Lifelong Learning at Åbo Akademi University.
